Doubleday Field is renowned the world over. Located in the quant village of Cooperstown, NY it has remained, on what was once a cow pasture owned by Elihu Phinney, hallowed ground for more than a century. Opened in 1920, now over 100 years old, Doubleday Field is America's most historic baseball stadium. On Sept. 6, 1920, the field officially opened. The first game was between Milford and Cooperstown. Although not the oldest it certainly has the most history.
No other stadium or field can lay claim to hosting MLB Hall of Fame Games (currently called Hall of Fame Classic) since 1939. And still does today. The stadium is located down the block from the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. The complex proudly displays a plaque stating "Birthplace Of Baseball". Countless baseball immortals have played at Doubleday Field over the last century. Players such as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron to modern hall of famers like Wade Boggs, Ozzie Smith, Tim Raines and so many others.
The best part about this stadium is that it also hosts amateur games all summer long. Talk about having a nostalgic experience. Try stepping up to the batter's box while fans from all over the world watch.
The complex has gone over major renovations recently. In 2020 $5.8 million renovations were completed for the 2021 season. A new scoreboard was also installed in 2018.
So if you get the chance take a visit to America's most historic baseball field located in one of America's most historic towns!
